The chip removal mode of straight fluted tap is downward, which is suitable for processing with through holes.
Straight groove tap is a general-purpose tap, simple to manufacture, cheap, can be processed through hole or not through hole, non-ferrous metal or ferrous metal materials, but the pertinence is poor, suitable for processing requirements of non-precision ordinary thread.
Spiral flute tap is more suitable for processing non-hole thread, processing chips backward discharge. Due to the helix angle, the actual cutting rake angle of the tap will increase with the increase of the helix angle. Under normal circumstances, the processing of ferrous metal, the spiral angle is selected to be smaller, generally about 30 degrees, to ensure the strength of the spiral teeth. For processing non-ferrous metals, the helix angle should be larger, which can be around 45 degrees, and the cutting should be sharp.
