4. Ball end cutter is a tool for semi-finishing and finishing of curved surfaces: the spindle motor we use has poor ability to resist axial force, so generally it is not possible to use ball end cutter for roughing (axial cutting force is too large), while in semi-finishing, it is very good to use ball end cutter. After semi-finishing with a ball-end knife, the processing residue is less, which is more conducive to the following finishing. The path spacing of semi-finishing is generally the two quilts of finishing spacing. If parallel cutting line is used, it is 90 degrees from the direction of finishing feed.
Ball end milling cutter use should pay attention to the problem:
1. Minimize the use of tool tip to process workpieces: at the tool tip position of the ball end, the machining linear speed is 0 during actual machining, that is to say, in fact, the tool is not cutting, but grinding. In actual machining, the coolant cannot be added to the cutting area at all, which leads to a relatively large cutting heat and a decrease in tool life.
2. For the straight wall, use the same height shape processing method for processing: to minimize the ball end knife down along the straight wall
